Bypassing the Iran War Impact on Helium Prices
|
|
| |
Oil and products derived from oil are grabbing all the headlines about the economic
impacts of the Iran War. It’s not just oil, however…
The New York Times reports, “…Qatar produces roughly a third of the world’s helium,
making it the second-largest supplier after the United States. But production there has been
disrupted since Iran struck the Ras Laffan Industrial City — the natural gas hub where the
country’s helium facilities are…”
This is why a re-examination of leak testing methods is very timely for those who have thought
that only helium testing is adequate for the stringent leak testing requirements of their
application. Often, Microscale Leak Test Methods—capable of measuring leaks as small as
0.5 micron— are adequate, if not superior, to expensive tracer gas testing.

Visit Chicago— To Find Your Fellow Uniques…
|
|
| |
If there is ONE factor that explains InterTech’s superior leak and functional testing success, it is
InterTech Testing Applications Laboratory’s constant focus on what makes each and every real-
world application unique. InterTech’s mass flow leak test sensors are tuned to specific
application test ranges. Test fixtures are designed to handle unique part
configurations—instead of attempting to force generic fixtures to somehow be one-size-fits-all
solutions, which they never are.

How fitting to invite you to visit the InterTech Testing Applications Laboratory in the Spring—
overlapping with Chicago’s celebration of one-offs of all kinds— The ONE-OF-A-KIND SHOW.
From upcycled art to fashions and more— it is THE place one goes to find something and all
things you won’t find in a generic shopping mall. The home of this show — Chicago’s
Merchandise Mart— is itself a unique structure. When it opened in 1030 it was the world’s
largest structure (4 million square feet), which by (wikipedia) report required “…29 million bricks,
40 miles (64 km) of plumbing, 380 miles (610 km) of wiring, nearly 4 million cubic yards
(3,100,000 m 3 ) of concrete, 200,000 cubic feet (5,700 m 3 ) of stone, and 4,000 windows.

Clearing Up Some Leak Test Confusions
|
|
| |
In this column we answer questions from InterTech customers
and also take on some misleading information that
manufacturers of Brand X leak detectors have been
disseminating.
Send your questions to sales@intertechdevelopment.com
Question: Q-It’s relatively easy to leak test large volume
parts vs. small volume parts- yes?
Answer: NO—Parts volume certainly does affect best test methods,
but testing large volume parts has different challenges.
When parts being tested have a large internal volume there are new constraints that
require adapting test methods to minimize test cycle times at all stages of testing—fill,
bypass, and stabilization. It is precisely these challenges that were drivers of many
InterTech patented test technologies geared for testing parts with large internal
volumes— LeanTest(r), Ex-Heat(r), and Fast-Fill(r).
The high precision sensors central to InterTech mass flow leak testers empower the
InterTech LeanTest® advantage. InterTech's LeanTest® speeds up test cycle times by
determining early in the test cycle that a part is clearly in or out of specifications. For
leak testing of large volume parts, the leak test cycle accelerations with InterTech
LeanTest can be especially significant - 30% is not uncommon.
InterTech’s proprietary Ex-Heat® technology significantly reduces the stabilization time
on large open test volumes, which is almost always the slowest part of the leak test and
with large volume parts is also typically the primary cause of inaccurate test values.
Test times are further minimized by use of InterTech's FastFill® test circuit| designs.
Fast Fill® is proprietary technology to introduce air quickly into the part being leak
tested without creating harmful turbulence.

Whether a part to be tested has small or large internal volume is actually just one of
many variables that InterTech’s Test Engineering Specialists consider in great detail
when designing optimal leak and functional test systems. Manufacturers and product
designers can rely on InterTech’s deep bench of test engineering expertise for a
detailed projection of ROI from investing in test technology updates.

Keeping Up with Medical Device Innovation Through Advanced Testing
|
|
| |
|
|
As the adage goes—time doesn’t stand still…
That’s especially apparent when your eyes are trained to see the ever more rapid
changes in medical device innovation side-by-side with lapses in use of test technology
that keeps pace with these upgrades.
InterTech’s Test Engineering Specialists have such a mindset. From seeing certain
disparities time and time again InterTech’s Test Engineering Team can quickly assess
the weak points of test systems. Has sensor accuracy degraded by use of out-of-date
mechanical calibrations? Is test data examined on a granular basis to identify trends or
are there only antiquated pass/fail datasets? Have test systems designed for earlier part
geometries been blindly relied on for new configurations that require different ways of
compensating for temperature, handling? Etc.
When you add InterTech Test Engineering Specialists to your product design and
manufacturing teams you gain the expertise needed to implement sophisticated test
systems on par with your pace of product innovation.

Life or Death—InterTech Case Study in Assembly Magazine
It was no small matter when the biotechnology company that created the PCR testing for
COVID turned to InterTech’s proven MicroScale leak test systems to help them bring their rapid
testing systems to market. In fact, it is not hyperbole to say that it was a matter of life and
death.
Recently, the case study of how InterTech assisted in helping meet the pandemic challenge was
featured in Assembly Magazine. Read this InterTech PCR Test Systems case study here.

Do Robots and Test Systems Play Well in the Sandbox?
Do Robots and Test Systems Play Well in the Sandbox? This
question is newly relevant as robotics get more and more AI
smarts.
True, AI helps robots do what robots do better. But it is actually
smart machine design that is key to optimizing robot and testing
integration — from parts marking to calibrations to Ethernet IP
integration and more.

this is handled in a magnesium transfer case automotive
