Clearing Up Some Leak Test Confusions

Question: If pressure decay leak testers cost less, why not use them?
The cost differences of various types of leak test instruments— and InterTech sells them all! — are relatively trivial compared to the lifetime costs of those test instruments as part of an overall leak test solution. The biggest cost factor of any test instrument—achieving reliable and repeatable test measurements that match application requirements— needs to be the most important consideration when sourcing leak test instruments. If defective products are released to the market the reputation costs and other liabilities can be considerable.
Errors in testing also come into play. Compared to high precision mass flow sensor-based test instruments that require only ONE test measurement, pressure decay leak testers requiring two measurements are inherently prone to more test measurement errors. Sensitivity of leak test measurements to heat and other real-world test conditions also bear on the choice of best-match test methods.
